Color of the Year: Ultra Violet

With Prom a few months away and wedding season kicking off, it is important to know what color will be at the top of the list for most fashionable. 2018’s Pantone color of the year is Ultra Violet and we are going to show you the best way to use it! Any alterations or dry cleaning needs you may have, we can assist you with. Keeping violet looking ultra is one of our specialties.

According to colorpsychology.org, the color purple has a few underlining meanings.

  • Combines the stability of blue and the energy of red.
  • Associated with royalty. It symbolizes power, nobility, luxury, and ambition
  • Conveys wealth and extravagance.
  • Associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic.

Physically, purple can have calming effects over the mind and nerves, it can be uplifting and can trigger creativity. So, from these points of view, you can have purple in any room of your house. It is the color of imagination and spirituality. In the Chakra colors, purple is the Crown Chakra. It means it governess the mind, the nervous system, and brain.

Pantone is know for releasing a color for the year annually. Their recommendation has a large impant on the fashion industry. USAToday wrote, “The color wasn’t chosen because it’s regal, though it resembles a majestic shade. It was chosen to evoke a counterculture flair, a grab for originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking, Pantone Vice President Laurie Pressman told The Associated Press ahead of the announcement.

“We are living in complex times,” she said. “We’re seeing the fear of going forward and how people are reacting to that fear.”

Pressman wasn’t keen on talking politics. The color, she said, playing out in home design, industrial spaces and products, fashion, art and food, reflects the idea of living not inside the box or outside the box but with no box at all. Specifically, she called the color “that complexity, that marriage, between the passionate red violets and the strong indigo purples.”

Though this color is used with the topic of fashion in mind, Ultraviolet has a different meaning to scientists. Ultraviolet is an electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength from 10 nm to 400 nm, shorter than that of visible light but longer than X-rays. UV radiation constitutes about 10% of the total light output of the Sun, and is thus present in sunlight.
